DSM SURJ News & Action, 10/9/2021

DSM SURJ would like to extend its sincere thanks to all the school board and city council candidates who responded to our survey and joined the forum on 10/3. In case you missed it, we are linking candidate responses to all survey questions below:

Survey Responses: All Candidates

DSM SURJ chose to survey all city council, mayoral, and school board candidates from the following areas:  Altoona, Ankeny (city & school), Clive, Dallas Center Grimes, Des Moines (city & school), DMACC, Grimes, Indianola (city & school), Johnston (city & school), Norwalk (city & school), Pleasant Hill, Southeast Polk, Urbandale (city & school), Waukee (city & school), West Des Moines (city & school), and Windsor Heights.

The survey questions were focused on informing our members about all candidates and where they stand on issues of racial justice.  From this group of candidates, the candidates of color who responded to the survey were invited to attend the forum on 10/3.  We firmly believe in amplifying the voices of color in our community as part of our commitment to racial equity.  As a leadership group made up of white people, it is not our place to determine which people of color are worth listening to.  Therefore, we did not filter any of these candidates based on their positions, and we have not endorsed any of these candidates.  We encourage you to assess all of the information available to you in deciding who to vote for.

If you have any feedback on the event, the questions, or anything else, please let us know.

Thank you for being part of an informed electorate!
